Fortunately for Joey Logano, he barely squeaked into the show, qualifying into the 43rd qualifying position. Jeff Gordon would win the pole at Texas.

O’Reilly Challenge Qualifying

There was no pressure for Joey Logano in the nationwide series. The number 20 Gamestop Toyota Camry is locked into the show, by virtue of being first in the owner points. So Joey Logano doesn’t have the same go or go home situation as he did in the Sprint Cup qualifying session. At the end of the qualifying session Joey Logano was ranked in the 8th position. He ran a pretty decent lap at 29.14, 3 tenths faster than his best time in practice.

O’Reilly Challenge Race

The O’Reilly Challenge Race will air on the first of November, starting at 3pm Eastern time on ESPN 2.

Next Cup Race in Home Depot 02

So far this year, mother nature has plagued Joey Logano’s attempts to qualify his number 02 Home Depot Toyota Camry into the sprint cup series races.

The first attempt Joey Logano made in the number 02 Home Depot, was Joey’s debut race in NASCAR Sprint cup Series at Richmond International Speedway. Joey put up a very strong practice, and got alot of attention and praise from his fellow competitors. Unfortunately though, the qualifying session was rained out, and Joey had to go home.

The second attempt for Joey in the 02 Home Depot, came last week at the Atlanta MotorSpeedway. This time though, mother nature rained out both the practice sessions, and qualifying sessions. And once again, Joey Logano had to go home, and was unable to race his number 02 Home Depot Toyota Camry.

Next week, Joey Logano will make his third attempt to qualify his number 02 car, into the show. So far right, now the weather is predicted as having only a 10% chance of rain. As long as it doesn’t rain out, then Joey Logano will get his chance to get into the show based on speed in the qualifying session.

The race will be at the Texas Motorspeedway. You can catch the qualifying session on ESPN 2, at 4:30 pm eastern time on October 31st. You can watch the race on ABC, with coverage starting at 3:00 pm eastern time. The green flag is scheduled to fly at about 3:47 pm eastern time.

Memphis Results

Joey Logano today visited Memphis Tennessee, for a some short track racing in his number 20 Gamestop Toyota Camry, for the the Kroger On Track For The Cure 250 presented by the Southern Dodge Dealers event.

Practice Results

Since Joey Logano was over at Atlanta Motorspeedway attempting to practice and qualify his number 20 Home Depot Camry, the team had Casey Atwood practice the number 20 Gamestop Toyota. Below were the results that Casey Atwood did in practice.

Practice Sheet

Session Rank Sponsor Best Speed Best Time Laps Run
Practice #1 20 GameStop Toyota 114.855 23.508 37
Final Practice 19 GameStop Toyota 114.591 23.562 65

Qualifying Result

As you know, Logano was not able to practice the car, so his first laps on the track, came when he went to qualify the number 20 Gamestop Toyota Camry. It was also Joey’s first time ever on the Memphis Motorsports Park race track.

Race Result

At the start of the race, Logano had a loose condition, but he was still able to pass car after car, on is way to the front of the pack. He made his way into the top 20 by lap 18. When a caution came out on lap 29, the team decided to bring him in to make some improvements to the car. After pitting, he would be in the 22nd position, but this time Joey Logano made an even more impressive run, as he reached the top ten by lap 34, and then the top 5 by lap 69, and third place by lap 73. Logano was able to get by Mike Bliss for the 2nd place before pitting for a 2nd time under caution on lap 127.

Amazingly, Logano held down the second position behind Edwards from lap 117 to lap 241, nine laps from the scheduled finish, when the team gambled on pitting under caution for sticker tires in hopes they would help Logano catch Edwards once and for all. The stop dropped Logano back to sixth, and with another yellow on lap 245, there turned out to be not enough green flag laps left for Logano to get the job done. He got by Chase Miller on the final lap to secure a top-five finish, his best since his first career victory at Kentucky Speedway in June, followed by back to back second place finishes at The Milwaukee Mile and Gateway. The winner for the race was, Carl Edwards.

With Logano’s 5th place finish, the number 20 is now back in the first place in the Nationwide Series Owner standings. The number 20 car is 39 points ahead of the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing entry.

Logano’s Race Comments

“We had a fast racecar,” Joe Logano said. “But it wasn’t the fastest race car. That one belonged to Carl Edwards. We made some mistakes during the race, but that just happens sometimes. Every week is different.”

“We had fun with it,” Joey Logano said. “It’s worn out, but I like old, worn-out tracks.

“I’m honestly amazed at how many long runs we had with no cautions. After all of the cautions last year, I would have never expected that.”
Joey Logano Next Nationwide Race

The next race for Joey Logano will be at the Texas Motor Speedway, which will be televised on November 1st, 2008, on ESPN 2, starting at 3 pm eastern time. They are scheduled to run a total of 300 miles, which is a total of 200 laps.

Atlanta Preview

This weekend, Joey Logano was scheduled to do double duty, racing in both the sprint cup series, and also the nationwide series. However, mother nature had a different say in the matter.

Sprint Cup

Today, for the 10th time in the 2008 season, qualifying was rained out. Unfortunately for Joey Logano, this meant that he had to go home. Joey was attempting to qualify the number 02 home depot Toyota Camry, for the second time this season. And so far, the rain has prevented him from racing in both race attempts in the number 02 Home Depot Toyota Camry. The team will attempt to qualify again next week at Texas Motorspeedway.

Nationwide Series

The boys are off to Memphis this week in the nationwide series.

Practice Speeds

Since Joey Logano was at the Atlanta MotorSpeedway, he did not practice the number 20 car. Instead Joe Gibbs Racing, had Casey Atwood, in the number 20 Toyota Camry doing the practicing on Friday. In the first practice session, Casey was 20th, and in the final practice session Casey ranked in the 19th position.

Kroger On Track For The Cure 250 Qualifying

The qualifying session will be televised on Saturday October 25th, 2008 at 10:30 am Eastern time on ESPN Classic. Logano will be stepping into the car and qualifying with no practice time under his belt.

Kroger On Track For The Cure 250 Race

The race will be telivised also on ESPN Classic, on Saturday October 25th, 2008 starting at 3 pm Eastern time.
